LOOK:
Charles Edward Stewart
He came across the waters from France to this green isle,
And here in Scotland they all loved his eloquence and style,
He soon became so popular this confident young man,
And gained the staunch allegiance of many a Scottish Clan.
Chorus: -
Charles Edward Stewart was his name,
To gain the crown of Scotland was his aim,
He strongly challenged Englands monarchy,
And changed the course of Scotlands history.
He brought the clans together as no-other of that day,
And the Jacobite rebellion was truly under way,
Though they bravely fought for freedom but the kings’ men did not yield,
And Scotlands hopes lay dying upon Culloden’s field.
Chorus.
In hot pursuit the Redcoats, gave chase when Charlie fled,
And the price of thirty thousand pounds was placed upon his head,
But unbetrayed he led the English troops a merry dance,
And in September forty-six he sailed back home to France.
Chorus.
Then came the bans no clan chiefs, no bagpipe to be played,
No Gaelic to be spoken, not another kilt displayed,
Yes the battle of Culloden was Prince Charlie’s great defeat,
And made disintegration of the clans almost complete.
