Ben launches his new independent record label, Buzzin' Fly Records, this month. The first release on April 28 will be his own track, Lone Cat (Holding On), which tore up many dancefloors on limited promo a couple of months back with major support from a diverse range of DJs. The release will also feature new remixes from Los Angeles' super-hot Groove Junkies. The post-Miami buzz is intense. The new promos are already picking up props a wide range of underground DJs.
Buzzin' Fly will offer a range of titles in 2003 featuring established and unknown names. Rodamaal's epic Detroit-esque disco-fuelled 'Musica Feliz' and the deep electro-soul of Automagic's 'Do You Feel?' are among the highlights. 'I hear great stuff that often seem to slip through the net,' says Ben. 'There are always fresh sounds and lost classics out there needing a home. I just want to give something back to the scene I have enjoyed being a part of so much for the past five years or so.' There will also be a hi-spec website at www.buzzinfly.com offering news, audio and interaction plus exclusive downloads and limited edition merchandise.
Virgin Records will continue to have first call on Ben and Tracey's own material, but some of Ben's productions that don't suit a particular project, will find an outlet on Buzzin' Fly. Lone Cat is a perfect example - a pure club track, that as Ben says was 'done casually one night and just took off unexpectedly.'
'I am still in love with music. I still hunt for the next great song, the next great beat,' Ben continues. 'Outside of EBTG, Lazy Dog has enabled me to play great music. As a social space, Cherry Jam has enabled me to present great music and events. I hope Buzzin?Fly will simply allow me to put out some great music.' |
